13 Week Course

Hybrid EMT-B Course*

Easton and Weston EMS are presenting their first combined EMT course.  This HYBRID course is designed for those individuals who like to have the flexibility to work at their own pace but still manage course assignments/completions.  This course is a combined learning approach including online, instructor-led, hands-on and webinar lectures.

Students will be required to complete daily and weekly assignments AND attend hands-on psychomotor classes.

INSTRUCTOR LED AND ONLINE EMT CLASSROOM:

  • Access to online lectures for each required chapter
  • Access to ancillary programs to aid in studying and creating a 3-dimensional learning environment.
  • Audio Book
  • Flash Cards
  • Digital Textbook
  • Electronic homework assignments
  • Video based scenario simulations
  • Forum to communicate with Staff and other students
  • Webinars

INSTRUCTOR LED/WEBINAR/VIDEO BASED LECTURE AND SKILLS:

Tuesdays – 6p-10p

Thursday – 6p-10p

Saturdays – 8a-4p (three dates currently scheduled)

Students will be required to be in class for the following milestones during the course.  All dates of these milestones will be communicated on the first day of class:

  1. First Day/Evening of class
  2. 50 hours of psychomotor skill instruction
  3. CPR Certification
  4. CEVO
  5. Mental Health First Aid
  6. NIMS 100, 200, 700 & 800
  7. Final Psychomotor Skill Exam

Students will be required to have the following items to successfully complete course:

  1. Laptop computer for in class lecturers and assignments (strongly useful).
  2. A computer outside of the classroom for online lectures and assignments.
  3. An internet access capable of streaming video content.
  4. Clinical uniform:
    1. Black pants – (no jeans)
    2. Polo shirt – included in course
    3. Solid black – non-permeable shoes
    4. Watch – with a second hand

What is included in the cost of the ONLINE EMT Course:

  1. Brady Emergency Care 13th Edition
  2. Digital Copy of Brady Emergency Care 13th Edition along with hard c opy
  3. Access to lectures and online activities and assignments
  4. American Heart Association BLS CPR Certification
  5. Clinical Uniform Shirt
  6. 16 hours of mandatory pre-hospital clinical observation – ambulance ride time coordinated by Easton EMS
  7. Simulated victim two (2) times at a National Registry Psychomotor (skills) exam
  8. CEVO Training
  9. Mental Health First Aid**
  10. State of CT Practical Exam with Easton EMS ONLY (one-time use)***

Upon course completion, you will have the knowledge and skills needed to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) exams.  There are two exams for this certification with a cognitive and psychomotor***.

Cost of the program is $1,100.  The required non-refundable down payment of $500 must be made to qualify and reserve a seat.  During the registration process students can choose the payment plan option to indicate their desire to make a payment.

Payments must be made weekly no later than Friday close of business.  Payments are calculated by taking the balance due after the non-refundable down payment and dividing by the number of weeks the class is in session.

Mental Health Training**

 Please Note the Information Below

Public Act 19-191 (see section 10 on page 15-18) requires that beginning on January 1, 2020, any person applying for initial certification as an emergency medical responder (EMR), emergency medical technician (EMT), advanced emergency medical technician (AEMT) or initial licensure as a paramedic must submit evidence to this Department with their application that they have completed mental health first aid training as part of a program provided by an instructor certified by the National Council for Behavioral Health. This Department neither approves or nor regulates instructors of this Mental Health First Aid program. This act also applies to persons applying for certification or licensure based on an endorsement from another state (sometimes called reciprocity). This act DOES NOT apply to renew EMR, EMT, AEMT certificates or paramedic licenses. The relevant portion of Public Act 19-191 is attached to this message.
